The NFL season is like Christmas for sports bettors. Sunday afternoons, an array of junk food and a cold beverage- not much in this world is more exciting. Whether you’re a professional sweating out a $10,000 wager, or a recreational player betting for fun, Sunday afternoons are where its at.
If you have some money to spare, and a burning desire to breathe, eat, and sleep all things football, here is some information you might find helpful.
There are many ways to skin a cat. There are also many ways to win, and for most of us lose, betting football.
Since I am operating under the assumption none of us will be quitting our day jobs to bet football full-time, what I suggest is to pick the option that appeals to you most. Here are some of my personal favorites.
The Parlay: I love to parlay, even if it makes me a total square. Why bet on one team, when if I bet on two or more, I can get a bigger return for a $100 investment? A two-team parlay pays 2.6 to 1 at most sportsbooks, a several team combination can pay hundreds of thousands, but are obviously bigger long shots.
NFL Teasers: These suckers are fun. They are similar to parlays in that you must select a minimum of two teams to play, but instead of requiring the regular pointspread to hit, you actually receive points to the spread. For example, if the Lions are -7 and the Giants are +10, a standard 6-point teaser converts these lines to -1 and +16.
Props: Are you the type of person that likes to bet on everything? If so, props are likely to interest you. You can wager on which team wins the opening coin toss, who will score first, and in Super Bowl games, even which color of Gatorade will be dumped on the winning coach’s head.
